600 is very shiny on copper: standard finish for residential application of 
bright copper is 4-ought steel wool:  a lot coarser than 600.  Dont know 
about aluminum or its alloys, though, but I bet youllbe satisfied way 
berfore you get to the 600.

I am building a vintage CANNONDALE bike w/the newest latest in components. 
Stripped the paint and going to do a 600 grit finish. Don't want it shiny, 
want it w/that hand sanded matte look...
