I have only one thing to add to Pete's excellent 
advice. Don't, I repeat do NOT tell her it's a POS! If 
she's like my SO she knows good and well I collect POS 
like filings to a magnet and will NOT authorize the 
purchase of a working . . . ANYTHING.

Tell her it's a IRREPARABLY BROKEN POS.

That MIGHT work.
