[TheForge] Platen Table Dogs.

For hold down dogs I have used 1" or 1 1/4" dia. mild steel rod. I have used the same ones for years without breaking any of them. The 1 1/4" rods are usually too heavy for my use, the more flexible they are the better they work. It maybe that the 1 1/2" rods are so ridged that to make them work you have to hit them pretty hard, eventually breaking them.
