Years ago an old blacksmith told me how good that old transformer
oil was a quench...Almost as good as whale oil, he said...high
flash point and it's almost inert.
It did work well for some years for me....until i found out about
PCBs.
Living there in the salt air, the transformers would rust through
and blow out every 7 years or so. I had a well that drew a lot of
surface water and the line of power poles went upstream. There
was an oily sheen on the bath water and the tap water too.
A truly bad-a$$ quench...pf
