Many of you know that Mike S. sold his Pure Iron inventory to Roger Duncan,
a now deceased member of the Blacksmith Guild of Central Maryland. After
Roger sold off a bunch of the Pure Iron he scouted out a mill to produce
smaller sizes of a similar product he named Double Aught Wrought Iron. Roger
went to many local events selling this and unfortunately died before all of
the inventory was sold. Over the past 3-4 years Roger's son has had several
people act as a broker to sell the inventory of Double Aught Wrought. Mean
while there are still some 5000lbs of 1/4" x 3/4" x 5' pieces left. Now
Roger's son is subdividing the farm and donated the inventory to a local
nonprofit group. I got a call last week from the director of the nonprofit
all excited that he's got 5000 lbs of "Blacksmith's Iron". They were excited
because they gave Roger's son a receipt for $6/pound for the donation and
they thought they would be able to sell it for that to all of the area
blacksmiths. I explained to him that Roger had already done a good marketing
job in the area and most of us had more Double Aught than we would ever use.
I explained that Double Aught was a Boutique product that wasn't in high
demand and he might want to lower the price, get rid of the inventory and
move on. So I think that's where it stands. As of this week he is planning
to come to Blacksmith Days of the Blacksmith Guild of Central Maryland in
Westminster, MD, May 17 and 18 with a trailer load of Double Aught Wrought
at a greatly reduced price, probably in the $1/pound range. I have no
interest in this except that I have used it and it is easy to use and soft.
I will post more when I hear more.
