[TheForge] RE: pricing

I don't get a lot of mechanic work done but I think it is more in the range
of $30/hr. When we moved here 10 years ago it was closer to $20/hr.

I have a friend that does finish carpenter work. He moved here from St.
Louis and it drives him crazy trying to bid jobs around here. He lasted
about 5 years and then had to leave, couldn't make a living here. The locals
would take his estimates as a plan and then have Billy Bob do it for minimum
wage.

So, Bob- what do mechanics charge there? Doctors? Oil change places? Auto
repair is around $85 here- lots more overhead than most of us have, but
thought provoking. Marine specialty fabrication is over $100 in most cases.
What about if someone brings in a welding job and you whack it right out
while they watch? So far theyr'e impressed and happy to pay rate and then
some, here, for little fixit jobs.
