Jim,

Check out:

http://www.spaco.org/postvise.htm

I have my larger post vise mounted to a very heavy work bench. But, I have two smaller ones (maybe 3 1/2"?) mounted to portable stands. One is a tire rim and, as you suggest, is not very stable. The other is combined with my swage block stand and is much more stable. It is made of very heavy angle iron and is on wheels. The stand, (Saltfork) swage block and vise all together probably weigh 125-150 lbs. I'm sorry I don't have photos to show you.

Aubrey

Subject: [TheForge] portable stand for a post vise

Could someone point me to plans for a portable post vise stand? I have a 4
3/4" and 3 1/2" post vises that I'd like to make stands for that are a bit
more stable than, say, using a tire rim as a base.

Thanks in advance!

Jim Guy
