[TheForge] engraving

You also might try goggling the name Meeks. He has one of the best books
out. It's sort of the bible of engravers, although since the advent of the
air driven equipment the Meeks book is a little out of the lane, but it has
tons of good info. I think Andrew is right on about the Lindsay equipment.
I've had his set-up for years. It won't make a bad engraver into a good
one, but it'll make the learning curve a little easier. Then, after the
learning period (a lifetime ?)you will not need to go looking for anything
new to engrave with. I don't see how his equipment could ever become
obsolete. However, there is more equipment out there now that you can try
out. Some is less expensive than the one mentioned here, and may just do
the job for you, lots of folks have it, and love it. You need to try and
get to a major knife show if there's one in your area. The engraving guys
bring their stuff to let people like you give it a try. Good luck with how
you go, the trip was a lot of fun for me, even if I wasn't born to be an
engraver.
Robert
