I should have thought to include: This is a 1932 Elgin with a hunter
case, I beleive it is a number 7 case.

My Scotch heart really hates the idea of spending the money on a
regular basis.  I once had a friend who when faced with the same kind
of choice figured out a cleaning method.  He said he had to clean once
a month but it was cheap and easy so he did it.  I have not seen him
in years.
