I actually works by the same basic principles that are used for
inductive heating. Here in somewhat general terms:
Huge electrical current in a coil surrounding the coin. That current
essentially makes an electromagnet of the coin. At the same time, the
changing magnetic field creates current within the coin. (kinda like a
generator).
That current also creates a magnetic field, but this field pushes hard
against the one in the coil. The field is so strong, it crushes the coin.
I wonder if we could make a hammer from the electromagnetic force.
Inducting heating, inductive/electromagnetic field no-contact hammer. No
fire, no smoke, no noise. Heck, no one would want to be a blacksmith
anymore.
