To get off of politics- which, of course, is an argument nobody ever  
wins-
Except my son- who is currently the Washington State High School  
Debate Champion, and therefore the most argumentative teen in my  
state...

Arent ALL BLACKSMITHS basically doing what you describe?

That is, working with the world they are given?
Theory doesnt amount to nuttin when you run it up against an actual  
piece of hot steel, which acts, no matter if you are a liberal or a  
conservative, according to the immutable physical laws of the universe.

So I would tend to give pretty much all blacksmiths the benefit of the  
doubt- that is, no matter how wrony you obviously are about your  
political beliefs (thats a joke, son) that you are a practical,  
resourceful guy who would be great to have around in any kind of a  
pinch, who knows how to fix things, who sees thru BS, and who  
basically has his head on straight.
