[TheForge] one time use crusible

Dan,
For small quantities of bronze you may want to try a lab and/or mining
supply house. Look for assay crucibles. They only cost $3 or $4. They
are designed for melting down samples of ore. In most labs they are
used only one time to keep from cross contaminating samples, but we
have found that they can be used multiple times. I recently tried
using one of these crucibles for bronze in my forge and it worked
really good. It was definitely a better option than firing up the
100# blast furnace for the small thing I needed.
Two companies that we have dealt with are Fisher Scientific and
Action Mining. I believe Action Mining has better prices. I imagine
that in So. Cal. you may well have something locally . You might want
to visit gold assay lab and see if they would sell or give you a
couple of new or old crucibles. They usually have a bunch on hand.
Where we are we have to order everything in!
