[TheForge] Searching for an anvil and a kiln

I'm currently sitting in a turn of the century (that's 19th to 20th)
terraced house in East London. The road before WWII would have be lined with
forged iron fences. All gone now - for the war effort. If I search carefully
under the pebbledash and breeze block replacements I can find evidence of
where the original railings were leaded into the walls.
It's not an unusual street - there are literally thousands like this all
over the city. I sometimes wonder what London would look like with it's
ironwork intact...

Like Chuck I remember seeing a photo -- it was on the web somewhere in my
case -- of a series of railroad hopper cars filled with anvils. It was one
of those "sad but true photos". Lots and lots of metal was recovered for
the war effort during WWII. At Tannehill, remains of the civil war blast
furnace equipment that had sat in the woods untouched for almost 80 years
was haul out to be melted down. (Parts of a large steam powered blowing
engine.)
