The part that holds the heat tubes that you walk on (above the foam  
insulation that is) is 4-6" thick or so. I sure wouldn't make a shop floor  
out of this- lime/sand just isn't sturdy enough, I think it would break  
down under the abuse, and the linseed oil is soaked into the top, making  
Linoleum out of the upper 1/8" or so..fine for a deliberately rustic  
living room, but I think you'd get a lot of punctures in a shop.
It looks like leather, a rich chocolate brown. Blue clay and masons'  
sand..go figure...sure is easy to live with though, and much friendlier  
than concrete for winter lounging when it's all heated up.
