Well it gets slightly technical, but some advanced approaches are in
this discussion:
http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=79&t=2065
Confused? Read on, it gets easier...

The ".rb" files are Ruby, a programming & scripting language; I
haven't yet used them
with SketchUp, but it looks like there are an *awesome* set of tools
which you can
simply download and drop into the specific folder as directed, and
they'll add menu options to SketchUp!!
http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/Ruby/em_edi_page.htm
(weld.rb was referred to repeatedly; some have more docs and some are PC-only)

Here is a direct link to Array Copy documentation:
http://download.sketchup.com/OnlineDoc/gsu6_win/Content/D-Modification_Tools/ModTool-Move.htm#kanchor245
(see the rest of the page too!)
and here is similar for Radial Copies:
http://download.sketchup.com/OnlineDoc/gsu6_win/Content/D-Modification_Tools/ModTool-Rotate.htm#multiplecopies

And it appears that if you're logged into their site, you can get more
tutorials from:
http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2073
(but the files are inaccessible on normal view)

Here is a direct link to a ".skp" tutorial for download, showing the
making of track-treads:
http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/sas/Tutorials/CopyArrayTut.skp

Note: all the links I provided here came from the very first one
(that forum thread),
I did add some handy jump-to anchors, but I didn't dig around in many
other places...
so there's plenty more where that came from!

all the best,

Ben
