Back in the 70's when I was down there I started out getting $0.50/ hr for 
farm work, $1.85 was minimum wage at the time. After a while I worked my 
way up to $2.00/ hr as the guy was surprised I was such a good worker. I 
thought the $ was atrocious and after several attempts at it stayed in NY.
Some had a work ethic that drove them and some had none. A lot of "we'll 
get roun' to it tomorrow"...
Lot of garbage around, got burned or piled up...
