Paul had it about right. Buy a major national brand so you can
get replacement and specialty tips...Smith, Victor Airco, Purox,
National etc. Get an adult set and full size tanks. Used is
often fine...sometimes cheap enough to rebuild the regulators ,
buy new tips and end up with better quality. A "pipeline" or
medium sized rig will do most things...if you tend to small work
an " aircraft" set up is handy and versatile.
Get a cutting attachment. Add a rosebud and specialty tips as needed.
Victor is the most common torch around and they are pretty good.
