[TheForge] Zinc soldering

Wow... zinc. I can barely think of a more hideous choice for a counter
top, but if they are willing to pay for it...
As to the question of finish - hammered finishes are cheesy as hell, so
they fail on the point of aesthetics. On the practical front I feel
they are not well suited to a counter. There may be issues with
cleaning them, depending on the precise finish, and I am not convinced
that they will age gracefully. Then again, zinc is such a horrid choice
for the application in question that even a smooth finish could end up
looking pretty ratty in comparatively short order.
Regarding joinery, I know it can be soldered, but that's the extent of
my knowledge. I'm wondering whether fusing the joints with, say, a
Little Torch would be feasible? Of course, the fume hazard would have
to be handled properly. Sorry I cannot be of greater assistance on this
point.
Do you know what possessed this customer to choose zinc?
