Finally have gotten to the point of being a non-lurker and start trying my 
hand at tooling up and get started. Just need to find a source of coal 
around the Quad Cities area. I am located actually in the Columbus Junction 
area. Know I can go to Ames but didn't know if someone closer was available.

Scott,

I get my coal at "City coal and Asphalt" in Piken Ill., It may be closer 
than Ames.

Also BAM has a coal depot at Downing Mo., check details at bamsite.org.

You may also get involved in UMBA, I think they are active in your area.
