Did get the new garb done, and it looked pretty good, but I'm going to
hafta wait on pictures, until I get some from other people at the
event.

Basic outfit was a raw silk tunic and trews (natural color). Trews
were basicly simple- you guys would perceive them as XXX large pajama
bottoms ;-) the tunic was trimmed at the (square) neck with a rainbow
sort of wide trim, and the sleeves, from the elbows down, were fairly
narrow, done with several layers of trim. Over that, I wore a
Dalmatica, which in a modern fashion would be an overshirt- it's
basicly a knee length tunic, made larger than the undertunic. It was
trimmed at the (square) neck and hem with a wide blue and gold floral
trim. The fabric was a 60/40 hemp and silk blend that I differentially
dyed- first layer being a vegetable fiber dye in a golden yellow,
overdyed with an animal fiber specific acid dye in bright red- net
result was a dark red with golden highlights, that wasn't quite
orange- I thought that might be appropriate, considering what I was up
there for ;-)

Danr's asking, because he caught me in a chat when I was cussing out
and hand stitching my boots ;-) My roommate, Rob did the sewing on the
outfit (and his wife didn't see either of us most of NY weekend
because we were up in my barn-apartment-in-progress working on the
outfit) while I was stitching (and cussing) the boots. Seems the
pattern I was using was a bit unspecific, so I'd managed to sew one
piece in upside down, and had to rip it all out and redo it- that was
3 feet of very careful lacing. Also had to do the same thing again for
another piece I got in wrong- was not a very happy leatherworker ;-)
Anyway, the boots were in a soft black leather I've had stashed for a
while, and the pattern was my variation of the Tandy plainsman's
knee-high moccasins, but instead of a fringe, I just had a flap, onto
which I had Rob sew a strip of the same trim he used on the dalmatica,
except in red and gold rather than blue. Didn't finish off the soles,
though- the leather has some stretching to do, and I'll need to
tighten the lacing there, and, I think, put edge lacing on the flaps
around the top for a more finished look.

In addition, Rob made me a 3/4 circle cloak out of grey wool Navy
blankets- a young guy at the event, who had just gotten back from
Iraq, got a laugh when he saw the "US" on the inside ;-)

All in all, it was a pretty sharp looking outfit, as well as very
comfortable and good to work in (as would have been done in period, I
removed the dalmatica for working in the kitchen). And, of course, I
had my black belt done in the 5-strand mystery braid and my usual belt
pouch over the dalmatica.

Heat it up
Hit it hard
Repent as necessary.
