Hello old friends out there

Been lurking for a while, but I guess Bruce is forcing my hand to start
posting.

I bought a Barnes foot powered metal lathe at a local garage sale in
November. I came with a box of tooling. I spent my down time during
Xmas tree sales on my farm cleaning and lubing it. I works great, with
no slop or play. The only thing needed is a new leather drive belt, and
some belt dressing. The belt tends to slip under load. The machine is
quiet, but quite a workout to use. The lathe has a total bed length of
60", and a 5" universal chuck. It was designed for threading. It came
with a pile of gears, and the brass plate for the TPI is still on the
leg. I date the anvil to around 1910. Anyone is welcome to visit and
try out the lathe. Just email me first.

The Fisher & Norris Museum continues to grow. I have slowly added items
to the display. I figure I have space for a few more years of
acquisitions. The items I seek most are 600 and 700 lb Fisher anvils,
and a #1 Fisher chain vise. Any leads will be appreciated and rewarded.
Those items will complete the display of all of the common Fisher
products.

My museum is open to anyone with an interest in old iron. Just contact
me first by email for directions. (NJ, 07727).

I am looking forward to Gitchners, seeing new and old friends. I am
bringing about 150 lbs of Hosfield dies to tailgate.

Subject: [TheForge] Treadle-powered lathe? (was: Period power hammer?)

A certain friend of mine (who monitors this group and
can chime in for himself if he wishes to be
identified) recently acquired a wonderful
pedal-powered metal lathe from perhaps 1930? This is
a serious, precision machine, the only "unusual"
feature being its power source - the user's leg and a
flywheel.
