Most machine tool supply houses will have M2, T15, M42 as well as a
few others in square pieces that are sold as lathe tool blanks. These
are typically ideal for shaper tooling. Mcmaster Carr stocks it from
3/16 to 7/8 square by 2 1/4" long to 6" long depending on size, Round
stock is also available but typically sold as drill blanks so again
length will vary with diameter. McMaster also has limited sizes in
flat stock. Beyond those pre cut pieces it is hard to locate in longer
pieces like 18" or 36" that you typically can get the A, D, O and W
types in. Partly because the high speed stuff is a bugger to heat
treat properly so it is sold in the heat treated state ready to grind
to shape. I have cut 3/16 and 1/4 M2 and T15 stock by using a cutoff
wheel, trying to do thicker stock will eat up your cut off disc
quickly, it is tough stuff so working with long lengths could be
difficult to cut to size.
