I am from Owensboro, KY. I didn't see it but the last public hanging was in Owensboro. It was for rape. Black on white, of course.

Fire's a discovery alright but making it on demand is
an invention.
Still, the context my grandmother answered in was the
greatest invention She'd ever seen. She was old but I
don't think she was in on the invention of firecraft,
the wheel or lever. She did remember the last indian
"raid" in the Ohios though it was 5-6 young bucks who
got drunk and rode through town yelling and knocking
things over. No scalps were hurt in the making of the
raid.
She also told me the best method for pushing a wagon
out of the mud. Push the wheels, not the wagon it's
much better leverage. Makes me wonder how much more I
would've picked up if I'd paid more attention.
