I'm not certain I know what you're trying to do here.  I *think* you
want to make a shallow, rectangular tray with vertical sides without
cutting into the metal at the corners or cutting out squares at the
corners.   Yes?

Try folding this up in paper and you'll see that there are two creases
at each corner that are at right angles to the edges in addition to
the one that is at 45 deg to the edges. I'm guessing that you'll have
to start one of these with a chisel (or similar but blunt tool) just
as you do the 45 deg one.  The other can be done after the box sides
are folded up by placing the box over a rectangular block and folding
the projecting tab in with a hammer.

Or maybe I don't get what you're doing.
