Funny you should ask.  I just posted that suggestion.

I have not tried this myself, but electrolysis is basically a VERY
simple process.  Much simpler than electroplating.  If you have a
low-voltage DC P/S and an object to try it on, give it a go and let me
know.  I'm suggesting a salt or baking soda bath, and putting the
galvanized piece on the anode (positive electrode).  If you try it,
let me know how it works.  Practical application much more interesting
than theory.
