[TheForge] Fire Pot

Hi Phil,
With regards to the lip on firepots, I found that when laying firebrick
splits on the surface of my built in forge, they came right up to the top of
the pot and there was nothing in the way of sliding work into the fire.
(The pot itself is set into a 1/4" plate that is about 30" square.)

With regard to firepots:
- I don't care for ones that have a lip in the front
and back (i.e., it sits up above the forge table).
- My two favorite firepots of all time are the
Buffalo Railroad and the Champion Whirlwind. They are
both big, and they fit below the level of the forge
table in the front and back.
- While not as heavy a casting as some firepots, I
like the Centaur rectangular ones. They are almost an
exact copy of the old Buffalo Vulcan firepots. I've
been using one for about 27 years now with no
problems.
- I've only seen two cases of problems with firepots.
In one case water was poured directly onto the
firepot and it cracked. In the other case the firepot
was mounted in a brick forge and it didn't have any
ventilation around the outside and it burned out.
