[TheForge] Question about "Novelty Ironworks" line-driven hammer

A friend of mine bought the only "Novelty Ironworks" from Dubuque, IA hammer
that I saw for sale.  I don't believe he uses his other than for his hammer
collection.  If I remember right they are similar to a little giant but had
leaf springs instead of a coil spring.  Don't remember what type of clutch
it had or if it was a belt tightner similar to a star hammer.

Not sure that company in IA would have been in business during the civil war
to make iron boat parts.
