[TheForge] Platen Table Dogs.

What grade of 1 1/2 round bar would you guys recommend for platen  
table dogs?  I've been told 4140, 1095, and mild steel.  What type of  
heat treatment would be best for this?  We've broken three since last  
fall.  They are all more than a year old.  Fortunately there wasn't  
any kind of velocity.  They just popped and fell apart.  These get  
used a lot.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.
