If you're doing the job properly, I would have to agree. I tried it
both ways. Sitting and reading the paper, letting the little darlings
murder each other with galleys and composing sticks didn't last long.
Between the boredom and guilt I just could not stand it for more than a
day or so.
Doing it the right way will wear your ass out quickly. Teaching is a
very difficult job indeed. The mediocre teachers have the best world...
work comparatively little, collect paycheck, get along. The really good
teachers are burnt weenie sandwiches after only a few years, then often
turn bitter, which is so very understandable given the horrid
environment most have to work in where top performance and results are
ridiculed rather than rewarded. Truly we live on planet Bizarro.
