[TheForge] OT Silicon Molds

A cheap way to do this is to take 100 % silicone RTV caulk and add a couple
of drops of glycerin and a couple of drops of acrylic paint and mix it up
until it is a consistent color. RTV cures in the presents of moisture. Use
a small amount thinned with lighter fluid and paint on the part to get the
detail and then put a layer about 1/2 to 1 inch thick on the part . You
will be able to demold the part with a sharp knife in 24 to 36 hours. A
master mold of plaster of paris might be needed to help retain the shape of
the part. You can use common dish soap as a release agent of Vaseline that
has bee thinned with lighter fluid. Vaseline might cause the loss of detail
in the wax part if it is not put on smooth. The tear strength of RTV is not
as high as the two part RTV. If you have a vacuum chamber it is a little
easer to get a good mold.
