Heh. Kinda loud, too.
Since Mike Linn posted this on the 17th, I've tried several times, on
different days at different times of day to visit that URL. No
response. That host doesn't respond to http or ping, traceroute dies
at some other .mil host. From my home account in Canada, that is.
But when I try from a USA-based account & IP address, I get the image
instantly.
Guess those Fatherland Security and Navy security folks are are real
serious about keeping the history of the US Navy from dangerous aliens
in Canada, despite the availability of the same image (and others) of
the USS Prometheus forge shop elsewhere on the net.
Huh.
Quite a number of years ago (maybe in the late 70s?) a US Navy support
ship was put up for auction. At San Diego, I think. Sounded to me
like the ultimate Christmas gift for the dedicated hardware hacker,
what with forge, machine, welding, hydraulics, weapons and electronics
shops, foundry, cranes and hoists. I forget the ship's name. Maybe
it was the successor to Prometheus.
