[TheForge] SS alloy advice?

Hi James! Howz life in WA? Have you taught any classes lately? Are you
planning to? Things are fine in the bay area...most of the smiths I know
are busy.

I'm not too familiar with the austenitic stainless alloys. There must be
another constituent that makes long-term elasticity possible. Perhaps these
are of the duplex alloy family where nickel influences them. I don't have
the specs. Grant

Hey Grant,

How are things down in the Bay Area?

The 300 series is the standard alloy family for stainless springs
301,302 and 17-4PH(317) are the most common 316 is used where extra
corrosion resistance is needed.
