The black is carbon. You don't want to use the only
solvent I know that dissolves it. (I won't even name
it, lest some poor fool try). Hot steel is a good
solvent for carbon, so abrasion is the only fix for
this. OTOH, it's harmless.
I'm not sure why Al would stain dark. Best remedy for
Al is to put it in the dishwasher with Cascade powder
or an off-brand equivalent. The abrasion and the
alkali usually leave Al shiny.
