Terry,

I tried to reply directlly but it got rejected by your spam filter.

When I had a day job one of the guys I worked with would have a chain saw
party every year. 6 to 10 of us would get together and cut and split wood.
The host would do a turkey in the smoker, it was a good time and we all put
in our supply of fire wood. Those of us that heated with wood came out a
lot better than those that just wanted a truck load for the fire place.
There was never an acident, though some of the guys were a little scary the
way they worked. A couple of the guys had really nice saws and could just
walk through the big stuff. The wood piles up pretty fast when you are
cutting up big trees.

After we put in our pond I had about 5 years of cutting wood off the piles
of trees they removed. There is still some wood there but it's not so nice
any more, too much rot, old bark and weeds.

It's good that your wife's church pitched in the help, even though it seemed
risky to you. Out here in the country it is pretty common for all the
neighbors to pitch in and help out when someone is laid up, they can
harvest a whole farm in a day when 4 or 5 combines all get going on it.

the logs just laid there until 10 nov 2007. my wife,
had arranged with a local church for the men's group
to come over in that saturday with their chain saws
and log splitters and cut the logs up for firewood.

neither my lawyer nor i particularly liked that idea.
my lawyer, is busy enough now with the head-on-collision
accident turning into yet another legal nightmare and
the 11yr old illinois workman's compensation legal
nightmare. anyway, my lawyer and i were voted down by
the wife.

the church group spent about 5 hours here on 10 nov 2007.
there are roughly 8 cords of firewood stacked and roughly
another 10 cords that need splitting.

thankfully, no one was injured. not one of those who came
had any safety equipment. no ear plugs, no safety glasses,
no safety chaps, no steel toed boots.
