[TheForge] OT: Chain Saws

On my saw, (poulan 306) you can't clean the fin area with just the chain
cover off. You need to remove the left side case to get access to the
cylinder. And you have to remove the handle the get the left case off.
I was watching it as I cut yesterday. I noticed that there is a steady
streem of dust comming out from behind the chain cover and going past the
muffler. I'll take the cover off today and see if there is a piece missing,
letting the saw dust get out of the chain area. It may just not be seating
into place properly.

I've been using chainsaws for nearly as long, about 35
and I've never seen nor heard of that happening. I know
it'll shorten a saw's life letting dust clog the
cooling fins and can cause other problems like plugging
the oil port in the bar. Catching one on fire is a new
one though.

Typically I clean the air cleaner and generally poke
the excess dust out when I change chains. Think I'll
take the air hose to it and see what comes out.

Currently I'm running a pair of Stihl 028 previously I
wore out an 032. I keep hearing rumors Honda is coming
out with a four stroke saw. If that happens Stihl and
Husky better bump their quality back to what it was a
couple decades ago.
