Hey Aubrey,
You need to get the tape made by the late Dave Manzer of wild rose forge.
It is titled "The power hammer cycle-how to cure the Bang tap blues"
The tape is worth it's weight in gold.
He shows how to tune up your hammer and then find the optimal speed to run
your hammer at to get maximum - performance.

Frosty,
Thanks. I think I'm in the right BPM range based on my research. I got the
motor wired up yesterday and almost have the motor mount fabricated. I
might be able to take it for a little test drive by this afternoon. I still
need to tighten up the ram gibs to take out the slop. It sounds simple
enough in theory. We shall see....
Aubrey

Aubrye:
The proper pully size may vary from machine to machine
and probably manufacturer to manufacturer. If you know
how many BPM spec calls for it'll be easy enough to
calculate the size of the primary pully from the
secondary pully and motor RPM.

Wrought iron is.

Bob,
I'm encouraged to hear that you have had a good
experience with your Mayer hammer. I spoke to Sid on
the phone yesterday. He was very helpful and gave me
some good advice on adjusting the ram guides and
clutch. I found that 3" motor pulley diameter on a
website somewhere, but I'm not sure where. From your
experience, it sounds like smaller would also work.
Thanks,
Aubrey
