Thanks, Bob.  Sid S. also suggested chain saw bar oil when I spoke to him on the phone a few minutes ago.  What a nice guy he is!  He seems very willing to share what he knows with anyone.

I have a 25lb LG (new style). When I adjust the guides I just tighten
them till
the hammer will not move. Then back them off evenly till it does. These
hammers are about as simple a machine as there is. No feeler
gauges or dial indicators needed. I use chain saw bar oil for lube.
