Empty? It was EMPTY!? Good grief man what in the world
would a "blacksmith" be doing with an EMPTY beer mug?
Refilling it as quickly as possible I'd buy but placng
it carefully on a piece of furniture? Just so it'll
leave the exact, perfect, decorative stain?

Sounds like one of those decorator shows Deb likes to
watch. Next thing we know you'll be telling us a little
dab of primary color will really make that scrollwork.
