[TheForge] Art, doncha know....

My opinion is similar to yours. If I were to rank them, I would put Williams
and Ray at the top. Followed by Doyle. Then Kirili. Lower down, Selby and
Minov. At the bottom, Pogolini and Pimpler.

Heh, note this is after a tall glass of mead.

Kirili - First impression. A power hammer test drive. He got very
good at squishing specific areas and has continued to reuse this
knowledge without progressing. Not much "art" there.

Ray - Displays a wider range of techniques and is more expressive. I
don't have a problem with calling most of his work "art".

Williams - Ditto for Williams

Pimpler - The "art" is ok, though the style is not my cup of
tea. Actually, I was more annoyed that the entire "web site" is
actually a Flash presentation; which most web designers eschew as bad
form at this point.

Pogolini - Other than being hung up on nails (pun slightly intended),
and hinged tools (particularly scissors), yes I'd consider that art.

Doyle - I didn't find much of his work on the site. The "Tree of
Life" I'd consider art, but the pictures don't show enough detail to know.

Selby - The "fern" is good. The "Guardian" close. But most of the
stuff is too simple, too basic. Not enough craftsmanship to go with
the designs. Simple drawings, plasma cutter, and welder do not art
make (at least not for Selby).

Minov - Although he too is stuck in a constant theme (2 dimensional
figures, wide bodies, stick limbs), I'd consider this art.

So, that's my take.
