I think the art *does* stand by itself...and we like it or we don't. Just because I don't like something, though, doesn't make it bad. It only means it isn't for me.

I like both Pollack and country music; I don't care for velvet Elvis and punk rock. Those who do like velvet Elvis and punk rock, though, can lay legitamite claim to its quality for them. Just as I don't like fabricated aluminum over hand-hammered steel...but the aluminum afficianados get their say just the way I do.

There are those who would say Harold Finster was just a nutcase and not a fantastic outsider artist. I'd disagree. But then, I like telephones painted with fingernail polish. ;-)
