[TheForge] cauldrons

Yesterday, had a family friend drop by with a cauldron that he purchased at a
garage sale for $5.00. This cauldron was at least a 10 gal. mebe larger I
really did'nt measure the volume it was large. The previous owner used it for a
flower pot and bored a single hole near the bottom. It had a second hole that
was about 2 inches from the top. He wanted to put it back to use as a cauldron
and needed me to fill the hole near the bottom and knock the rust out of the
inside. Filled the hole with silver solder but it took forever to heat even
after sitting out in the sun all day. I left the hole at the top, it appeared to
have not been drilled there reciently. Do cauldrons have a hole like that
normally? I thought it was to avoid boiling over anyway is so near the top that
it will not be a big issue. We ended up settling on a trade to pay
out the job. We also settled on a cash price for a tripod/roasting spit.
He said that he bought a new 4 gal. cauldron from a catalog, I didnt know that
they made em new anymore.
