[TheForge] Dumpster Diving (for truth) and metal-glass padding question

Well said, Terry -- don't forget this one, folks:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fear%2C_uncertainty_and_doubt (FUD)

very telling.

Oh, here's a fun story for ya. In my college days I got big bags of
bagels most nights, from some friends who worked at a fresh-daily
shop. They were destined for the dumpster, but were intended to be
food for the needy... so I did my own "branch" of the food not bombs
thing, which went really well. After a while, some folks told me I
should network with the organized feeds, which made sense... turns out
the "organized" local food not bombs group, supposedly shall we say an
ad-hoc entity, was pissed at me for doing the "rogue" thing... so I
brought them my shipments and they just tossed it out on the curb. So
the food did not get distributed then. Silly humans, always
subverting their own mission :)

.... [back to metal stuff, eh]...
So I've got a small job to make a few stands for fused-glass pieces.
They're pretty much flat and rectangular, roughly one sq. ft. in area
and ~1/3" thick on edge. The plan is to have a base, two short (4-6")
legs supporting the bottom of the piece, and two arms (all welded onto
the base). One arm will be short, and one long, supporting the sides
of the pieces. Little U-shaped brackets forged onto the ends of these
arms and legs to go around the edge of the piece... so I'm concerned
about the any vibration between metal and glass, even though these are
gallery pieces -- any suggestions of some sort of discreet clear
silicone I could paint onto the inside of the U brackets, where they
support and hold the glass?

Also, the glass artist has requested a dull finish, and most of what
I've done has been just wire-brushing and heat/oil finishing... also
will be doing a color patina, which I've been able to get some
stovetop success with (only hapzardly, from the forge or welder). Any
tips on this part would be appreciated as well.

thanks!!

ben
