Subject: [TheForge] die for a small hinge barrel
Somewhere in the past I saw a die used with an arbor press. This was for
making the barrel part of a small hinge. As I remember it, the die was a
piece of solid stock that had a vertical slit for the flat hinge material to
slide into. At the bottom (and off-set) of the vertical slit was a drilled
hole whose diameter would be the diameter of the hinge barrel. The flat
stock was slid into the vertical slot and when pressed with the arbor press,
the flat metal would go down the slit and curl in the round hole at the
bottom thus forming the hinge barrel.
Question: Is anyone familiar with this hinge die set-up? Was it in a book
or perhaps a video? Can anyone tell me where to find a sketch or other info
about this process? Any help would be appreciated. thanks, dave mudge
