[TheForge] Re: Question on wheel bareing weight

My welding table is a feather-weight :-), only a 4x4 of 1/2" plate on
4" pipe legs. I used to move it with a wooden gizmo similar to an
old-fashioned wagon jack stood on a dolly with 4 rubber-tired
casters. I considered putting 4 wheeled trailer jacks on it so that
the tires would flip up and not get mangled by bits of molten
steel. But now I have an engine lift that will moove it, which is less
clunky.

However, for your 2-ton tables, maybe we should take a clue from the
Tool Gypsy who, IIRC, suggested a couple of days ago building a
Turbocharged Camaro Power Hammer. If you mount a Unimog power train
under your welding table, you should be all set. I believe I read
that, in low gear, low range, low axle, the Unimog red-lines at 0.178
MPH, just about right for cruising around the shop. Or even, with
those big off-road tires, around the shop yard littered with scrap,
failed projects and disassembled steam hammers.
