[TheForge] Branding Irons? Professional witness?

The 3 that I have that were made about 1845 all have long (~3 ft.) wrought iron handles with a point on the end to stick a corn cob on.  I have also seen the ones with a tapered socket.  I assume it is the smith's choice.
