Bob:
This is in reference to a mechanical power hammer. A
shock absorber in the crank connecting arm just sucks
the power out of the unit.
Springs in the arm connection is necessary so there's
give or it'd break when it hit a piece of iron, hot or
not.
The shock absorber linkage got inserted into a treadle
hammer thread in the spirit of brainstorming. As far as
I know it's only ever been tried in a power hammer and
almost immediately removed as counter productive.
