We do that all the time in the UK - and call it a "forge-in"
BABA Sometimes organises, or just promotes. I think there are some listed
now on our website. Go to www.baba.org.uk to see how we run things over
here.
Hoping to attend an ABANA meet one day,
Rich M.

Well, I haven't made it to Vista yet, but I'd like to this year.
Nettfest is a lot of fun, and that's the kind of thing I was thinking
of... I've heard that the CBA Octoberfest is like that, too.
There aren't too many blacksmith get-togethers around here, and it would
be nice to add one more. I guess I was thinking that instead of a
"formal event" it would be nice to Invite some smiths to meet up
somewhere and just get together and smash some metal. Maybe invite some
SCA metalworkers, too. I don't know how realistic this plan is, but I'll
find out!
There are a couple of campgrounds along the Ortega Highway that might
work well... Either near Lake Elsinore or in the mountains behind
Hemmit. That looks to be fairly central for Southern Ca. I talked to one
of the CBA board members about it and got some suggestions for other
places, too.

Jeff:
How bout Netfest? Or the CBA conferences when they are held at
Vista/ They seem pretty laid back. I liked camping in the weeds
next to that big old stationary steam engine last time.
