IT is a broken bench vice/anvil.

I've had the twin of this bolted to a corner of my work bench for most of
The last 40 years.  It is part of an old bench vice. The anvil half with
the front broken/ missing.  I used the horn for hammer shaping hooks, etc.

As an anvil it is better than nothing, which is what I had for many years.
A length of RR track iron and vice/ anvil.

After I got a real anvil, I still left it bolted to the corner of my shop
bench, because it comes in handy once in a while.
