While I often work alone, I find that having more tools allows me to
work alone easier.
I have employees a couple of days a week, and to me, they are, like a
tool, just another way to do things that would be hard to do alone
with my bare hands.
But being the complete tool nut that I am, I cannot imagine not
wanting to have ANY tool.
I want em all.
I love being able to walk over to my ironworker, for example, and
punch a bunch of holes in thick steel quickly and effortlessly.
I dont use my power hammer for everything. But for what its good for,
its REALLY good for it.
In terms of demos, I often learn a lot from demos of people doing
things I would never do myself in a million years. The basic
techniques are cross transferable, and the tricks people invent to
make a colonial oil lamp might be just what I need to make an art
deco stainless steel fence.
I dont discard knowledge just because they are doing something I
wouldnt think of- in fact, thats kinda the point of a demo.
So while I love big machines, I also watch hand forging demos, and
learn from them. And repousse demos, and knifemaking, and so on, even
though I am not planning on doing either at this point.

And, a power hammer will pay for itself. Increased production,
increased design capabilities( bigger stock), in addition to wear and
tear.
Mine paid out in 2 months.
