 This is exactly why I am getting off my ass and making this power
hammer thing happen. I have been forging here and there and I am feeling
it a lot more now in my arms...No reason for that when I can build a
hammer..

As for the glasses, well I never mentioned wearing them because I
thought that it was a GIVEN doing what we do w/steel..

Grover, you don't *need* a power hammer, but it makes life easier when
drawing out a 5"x5/8" pc of steel to a taper 18" or so. Drawing out the
reigns on tongs is much faster, saves fuel and saves the arm. A friend
of mine used to make Damascus by hand but that got old. On *big*
projects a
*big* power hammer is really good to have- you can do in a few heats
what would take all day by hand.

A word of caution: Always wear eye & ear protection- everybody is
starting to mumble..... Too many years of intermittently breaking my own
rules.
